Wren in Silhouette
The last time my mom came to visit, she brought me a silhouette portrait from when I was around 10 years old. Since I've been working with animal silhouette's lately, it just seemed natural to create something from my own. I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Shiny Happy Things
Just like little pieces of candy!
I have some new items brewing and as usual not enough time to make everything! I love the new style of pendant I am now making from my art and ephemera. I am also excited that I was accepted as a Capsule SF designer, which means I get to participate in their shows! The next one is October 19th, in Hayes Valley. Yay!

Craftaluma Recap
Front, center view of my table. See more pix here
I vended my first ever craft show this past Sunday. It was so much fun and I met so many cool people, not to mention some of my fellow CCCOE teamsters.
Although a small event, there was a steady stream of people until about 3pm. There was live music and a raffle giveaway! (I won a book, Bazaar, Bizarre)!
Many thanks to my pal, Adrienne for helping tend the wares and styling my table!
Next one up is Renegade San Francisco, I have only 2 weeks to prepare! Yikes!

Eons & Eons
Can it really be 2 months since my last post?! I've been busy for sure. I'm happy to announce that I will be participating in 2 great craft shows this summer. These will be the first shows I have ever done! I am excited and EEEK! freaking out as well.
First up is Craftaluma, put on by the Petaluma Craft Mafia. The idea of any sort of mafia having a presence in Petaluma is just hilarious, but the gals are cool and are excited to put on a good show.
Come check it out Sunday, June 29th

Featured Artists
Every now and then I like to share some of the great things I have come across on Etsy. It really is a wonderful place to discover new artist's and add to your collection.
"Delve", © Diana Crites
I just love this painting. The desconstructed cuckoo clock and its little inhabitant waiting for the perfect time to strike. I had to own a version. Fortunately, for me and you there are limited edition ACEO's available of this painting. You can see more of Diana's delightfully, surreal work here.
"Against The Wind", © Roberta Murray
The work of Roberta Murray is truly amazing. She creates her composite images by combining photography, paint and digital techniques. Her work is other worldly and evocative of a long forgotten memory or dream. Perusing her shop is a must.

I Love Collage
Collage work is great because you can basically create art from bits of rubbish and detritus, smack some acrylic gel medium on it and you have a finished piece! O.k. maybe its not that easy, but it sure is fun.

Some Experiments
I've been working a lot at nothing! At least it feels that way. I have some new client work (work, work) then there is the fun stuff (play, work). I shot some new photos this weekend, using a waist level viewfinder and my digital camera. I love the look of the photos, and plan to experiment shooting through other old cameras with my digital. There is a whole group of people dedicated to this type of photography (TTV: Through the Viewfinder). You can see some of their work here.

Things to Ponder on Art and Money
So, I stumbled upon this really great site today, that led me to this really great blog, that led me to this very interesting post by Jen McCleary. I think as artists, we have pondered the same points she brings up. It's a relevant topic...join the discussion.

RAG ATC Trade and ATC History
Richmond Art Gallery in Richmond, BC Canada, hosts an ATC project. The last one was in February. If you live in the Richmond area and want to participate in the RAG trade or find out about future meetings, contact atc_at_rag@hotmail.com.

"A little history…"
"The original concept was developed by Swiss artist m. vanci stirnemann, who wanted to make a catalogue to document his activities with other artists. Because the cost of printing a catalogue in hockey-card format was prohibitive, he decided in 1996 to produce 1,200 cards by hand. This led to the first exhibition of Artist Trading Cards in April 1997. During the show, visitors were encouraged to produce their own cards to trade with stirnemann and others at the closing reception. From then on, a Trading Session has taken place at INK.art&text on the last Saturday of every month...."
ATC vs. ACEO
Lately, I have been making a lot of art cards. I enjoy working on the smaller scale and pretty much anything goes, if you follow 1 key rule: art cards must be 2.5" x 3.5", horizontal or vertical is fine.
Art cards fall into 2 categories ATC or ACEO. An ATC (artist trading card) is for trading with other artists. It's a great way to meet other artists and amass an art collection for the cost of postage. You can also organize artist trades to meet other ATC enthusiasts in your area.
A good site to check out ATC groups is Flickr. The following sites may be of interest as well.

Now for the ACEO
ACEO's (art cards, editions and originals) are the same as ATC's with one key difference: they are for sale-not trade. This is quite the point of contention for some ACT artists, since the spirit of the ATC is to have art available to everyone, without placing monetary value on the card. However, there are many collectors who are not artists and the ACEO market provides them a way to expand their collections.
ACEO's can be found at craft fairs, etsy, ebay and http://www.art-cards.org/

I have this fantasy...
I am behind on posting challenge updates today, mostly due to work and reading the blogs about Project Runway. I've come across a couple of good ones, this one will crack you up.
Now for my fantasy...
Ok, I am not a fashion designer, but I sooooo want to be on Project Runway. I would be the girl that constructs all her pieces with fabric glue and Heat-n-Bond. Everyone else would bitch about me not knowing how to use a sewing machine, but I would totally win the "Design a Couture Look from Garbage" and the "Create a Ready to Wear Piece from Found Objects" challenges.
