At the Intersection of Art and Crafts

Crafts used to be a dirty word in the world of "fine" art-and perhaps in some circles it still evokes a level of contempt once reserved for the photographic arts. However, within the last 10 years, many contemporary artists have been finding inspiration in folk art and other art forms that reflect craft traditions that do not subscribe to any movement or art theory.

Now with the recent popularity of handmade, the craft movement is putting a whole new spin on the meaning of the artist's hand. We are seeing more artists adopt not only these traditions, but also the use of non traditional art materials into their work.

As an artist and crafter, I am interested in where these two worlds meet and how that is changing how we make, view and buy art today.
